Huawei Pura 80 Series Becomes First Smartphone to Support Alipay Tap
June 11 — Huawei officially launched its flagship Pura 80 series smartphone today, unveiling a range of enhancements in both design and performance. One of the most notable features is a groundbreaking advancement in mobile payments: one-touch Alipay payments with the screen off.
The Pura 80 series introduces an upgraded NFC module powered by Huawei’s proprietary iTAP intelligent contactless protocol. This innovation enables seamless payment interactions via near-field communication (NFC), even when the screen is off.
According to Alipay, Huawei’s Pura 80 series is the first smartphone capable of completing an Alipay “Tap to Pay” transaction without waking the screen. Users can simply tap the device on a compatible terminal, and upon brief authentication, the transaction is securely processed.
Traditionally, Alipay users have relied on barcode-based payments via the “scan” method, which utilizes the phone’s display and camera. The new “tap” method, in contrast, leverages NFC technology for faster, contactless interactions. While both approaches maintain the same high standard of network-side security, the new feature streamlines the experience.
Previously, users had to unlock their phone and manually enable NFC before tapping the device on a payment terminal. With the Pura 80 series, Huawei eliminates these extra steps, marking a significant leap forward in mobile payment convenience and efficiency.
